Mon Health System implements new parental leave policy

Mon Health System implemented a new system-wide parental leave policy for employees, giving them paid additional time off for the birth, adoption or placement of a child.

Eligible employees will receive up to 14 consecutive calendar days of paid parental leave. They will also be compensated at 100% of their regular pay. If both spouses are employees of the health system, each will receive the same benefit.

“We recognize how precious and fleeting those early days are following a birth, adoption or foster placement,” President and CEO David Goldberg said in a statement.

“We want our employees who are expecting parents or caregivers to be able to focus on bonding with their children and attending to family responsibilities before transitioning back to work,” he said.

Mon Health said paid parental leave may be taken any time during a three-month period immediately following a birth, adoption, or placement of a child. Eligible employees do not have to qualify for the Family and Medical Leave Act to receive parental leave.

“Research shows parental leave poses many benefits for parents and caregivers, as well as the children under their care,” Goldberg said. “We are committed to making this a priority for our Mon Health family going forward.”

Mon Health employs 2,500 people at 40 locations in Morgantown, Kingwood, Weston, Elkins and Garrett County, Md., and Fayette County, Pa.
