MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Backyard Brawl comes to the Mylan Park Aquatics Center today at 11 a.m. today as West Virginia takes on Pittsburgh.

“This is always an exciting meet,” Mountaineers coach Vic Riggs said. “Hosting the swimming and diving version of the Backyard Brawl at our new home only adds to the atmosphere in a rivalry meet like this. [Pitt head coach] John’s [Hargis] teams are always well-prepared, and we will have to be at our best to come away with a win.”

Although annual occurances of the Backyard Brawl has faded away in other sports, the Panthers and Mountaineers continue the long-standing competition that began in 1994-95 for the co-ed swim teams.

Morgan Bullock looks to lead the Mountaineers once more this year after winning four events in last year’s loss. Rising star Hunter Armstrong will look to continue his successful runs after the freshman qualified for four three finals at the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open in Atlanta hosted by USA Swimming. He also earned a spot in the 100 backstroke Olympic Trials Cut. The U.S. Open was the last time WVU hit the pools, exactly one month ago.

Pitt’s teams enter the dual meet 1-1, while WVU enters 0-1.
