MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia football team lost its second assistant coach this offseason. Blake Seiler, who coached the Mountaineers inside linebackers and special teams units last season, is expected to take the defensive coordinator position at Old Dominion., first reported by FootballScoop.com.
Seiler was formerly the defensive coordinator at his alma mater, Kansas State, before joining Neal Brown’s staff at WVU last offseason.
The Monarchs will be led by new head coach Ricky Rahne, the former offensive coordinator at Penn State. Rahne was an assistant at K-State from 2006-10, which overlapped Seiler’s time as a player and coach. Seiler played for the Wildcats from 2003–6 and coached in Manhattan from 2009-18.
Under Seiler’s watch, the Mountaineers’ special teams improved drastically, especially on the coverage units for kickoffs and punts. WVU allowed 100 yards total on punt returns all season, 70 coming on Jalen Reagor’s touchdown in the last game of the season.
Wide receiver coach Xavier Dye left for the same position South Florida on Dec. 21. His vacant spot had not been filled.
