Preston schools to offer Morning Explorers

KINGWOOD — Preston After School Explorers has added a morning program to help families for the 2019-20 school year.

Morning Explorers meets one hour before the school day starts.

“This is a great way to help students get themselves ready for the day,” said After School Explorers Program Director Susie Huggins. “Time management is often an issue for many of us, youth and adults alike. This is an opportunity to finish work, prepare for a test, gain some computer skills, check the daily planner, transition from home to school.”

Caregivers can drop students off one hour before school starts. This program can also help caregivers get to work on time.

Central Preston is offering Morning Explorers with teacher and author Ellen Shubert.

Preston High’s Morning Explorers coordinator is Assistant Principal Pam Wilt. Wilt helps students stay on the pulse of activities involving the Knights.

Kimberly Nesci is on hand at Rowlesburg School to help start the day. South Preston’s Morning Explorers is hosted by veteran teacher Jenny Zinn. Zinn helps students with computer activities.

Mikaila Strawser greets families in the morning at Terra Alta East Preston School to help prepare for the day. Jeannie Ringer hosts Morning Explorers at the West Preston library.

Caregivers must fill out a registration form before a student starts attending the program. On the child’s first day, caregivers should plan on 20 minutes to fill out the registration form or call the school to request a registration form in advance. Enrollment is limited to 16 at each site and slots are filling fast.

If there is a two-hour delay in the start of school, the program will start two hours later. If there is a snow day, there will be no Morning Explorers program. The morning program meets Monday through Friday.
