Peggy S. McPherson, 82, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 16, 1937 in Marlinton, a daughter of the late Clarence and Ella Sheets of Green Bank.
Peggy was a member of Suncrest United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Green Bank High School, where she was a cheerleader and played in the band. She was actively involved in 4-H and was also a princess in the Mountain State Forest Festival. Peggy attended West Virginia University and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She was a former elementary school teacher; an organist at the Presbyterian church in Lexington, Va.; and for many years, gave piano lessons to countless students and served as the accompanist at various WVU events. As the wife of Coach Gary McPherson, she acted as a mother and confidant to numerous student athletes throughout the years.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Melissa “Missy” McPherson, of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Patty McPherson, of Morgantown; siblings, Jeanne S. Carter, of Wheeling, and Charles Sheets and his wife Carolyn, of Fairmont. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gary D. McPherson and her son, Chris McPherson.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to Hastings Funeral Home. Friends and family will be received at Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Road, Morgantown, WV from 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27 until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mike Estep and Pastor Junius Lewis officiating.
