Kingwood Council still on case of dilapidated buildings

KINGWOOD — Work continues on eliminating dilapidated buildings in Kingwood.

At Tuesday’s City Council meeting Recorder Bill Robertson said a building on South Price Street is scheduled to be auctioned.

After receiving a letter from the City, he said owners of a piece of property on Chestnut Street indicated they were going to repair the property and sell it.

Although letters have been sent to the owner of the Sweet Annie’s building there has been no reply.

The Dominion Post reported earlier this month that Mayor Jean Guillot said that the Preston County Economic Development Authority has received a grant to pay for pre-demolition work on the building. Sweet Annie’s is on Price Street. The city is in the process of condemning the building.

In other business, Councilman Mike Lipscomb said a heating unit is being replaced in City Hall. He said the unit has been ordered and will be installed by the end of the week.

Council members voted to approve amendments to their vacation policy. Instead of losing vacation hours, employees will be paid for two weeks and can carry two more weeks over to the next year.

Council must approve vacation rollover and/or pay for the two weeks of vacation.

Payment for the two weeks of vacation will be included in the first full pay in January.
