Mary Felton

“You cannot do a kindness too soon because you never know how soon it will be too late.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson. Mary Ann Felton was the epitome of kindness and giving and lived this quote daily.

Mary Ann, a 1974 graduate of Terra Alta High School, dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, originally from Terra Alta, and most recently residing in Lakeland, Fla., passed peacefully on Saturday Dec. 14, 2019, at the of age 63. She was born in Terra Alta on Jan. 25, 1956, as one of seven children to the late Edgar Dale Sypolt and Betty Jane (Kemphfer) Sypolt, of Terra Alta.

Mary Ann was the dedicated loving wife of her high school sweetheart, Eddie for 45 years, marrying on June 1, 1974. She was the proud mother of her only son, Dr. Shawn Felton and his wife Dr. April (Fowler) Felton and even prouder grandmother to their children Delaney and Zachary Felton, of Estero, Fla.

Mary Ann was adventurous, caring and always providing to others with things that she didn’t have in her early life. She experienced great joy by sharing her many gifts. She missed her family in West Virginia, but so loved the warmer days and ocean breezes that moving to Florida brought her during her more recent years. Most importantly with the move to Florida, she gained her greatest gift by being closer to her beloved grandchildren.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by an unborn child, her parents and her sister Jane (Sypolt) Smith. She is survived by her most loving husband Eddie, her son Shawn and his family, and her 5 remaining brothers and sisters. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann is resting with the Lord. Please join the family to offer condolences at Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Friday Dec. 27, with the funeral ceremony and celebration of life scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday Dec. 28. Following the funeral, Mary Ann will be interred at Terra Alta Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Mary Ann’s honor to Good Shepherd Hospice-Lakeland Hospice House – Lakeland, Fla.
