Vera Hertzog

Vera Catherine Hertzog, 70, of Morgantown, gained her angel wings shortly after midnight on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, in the comfort of her home and with her family who loved her dearly.

She was born May 2, 1949, in Morgantown and was a daughter of the late Edward Lee and Edith Pearlene (McDonald) Hertzog.

Vera is survived by her siblings, her caregiver Joyce Hammack and husband Bud with whom she made her home for the past 20 years, Freda “T” Hines and husband Bill, Kathy King, Helen Tichenor and husband Mike (“my brother-in-law!”), and Terry Hertzog; a special sister-in-law Ruby “Boobie” Hertzog, as well as several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents Charles and Nannie McDonald and Fred and Verna Hertzog; a brother, Larry Hertzog; as well as a special nephew, Jason Hammack.

Vera loved life and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She loved Elvis Presley music, shopping and spending time with all her loved ones. She attended PACETEC for several years. Vera will be sadly missed by her family and everyone who knew her.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to C.C.I.L. and the staff of Amedysis Hospice on Collins Ferry Road for their care and support.

Friends may join the family to honor Vera’s life and legacy at Nicholson Chapel Church, Summers School Road, Morgantown, beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, and continuing until the time of her funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, officiated by Chaplain Craig Falkenstine. Following the funeral service, Vera will be laid to rest with her family at Nicholson Chapel Cemetery.
