PREP ROUNDUP: Preston keeps perfect opening record alive, defeats Buckhannon-Upshur 59-53

KINGWOOD, W.Va. — The Preston girls’ basketball team defeated visiting Buckhannon-Upshur 59-53 to continue an early-season undefeated streak. The win snaps an eight-game skid against the Buccaneers.

Michelle Thomas led the Lady Knights (3-0) in the close win, putting up 19 points while shooting 53.8% from the free throw line. Carsynn Sines (16 points) and Kylie Felton (10) combined for 26 points to help push the Knights over B-U as PHS trailed by five heading into the final quarter.

Kendal Currence paced the Buccaneers (1-0) with 15 points, while Shelby McDaniels and Mckenzie Reynolds each had 11. B-U’s leading scorer Brooklyn Maxwell was held to a low five points against the stifling Preston defense.

Preston returns to action today with a home game against the Hedgesville Eagles.
