Jaidyn West scores 42 to lead Notre Dame past Preston

CLARKSBURG — Jaidyn West put on an impressive performance Wednesday.

The Notre Dame sophomore guard — and son of head coach Jarrod West, a former WVU standout — scored 42 points, as the Irish downed Preston, 80-55, in the season openers for both teams.

Teamed with fellow sophomore Glendon Britton (17 points), the duo outscored the Knights by themselves.

“We had no answer for that,” PHS head coach Paul Koontz said.

Notre Dame (1-0) broke the game open in the second quarter.

After the game was tied at 14 at the end of the first quarter, Notre Dame outscored Preston (0-1), 25-13.

Nick Smith led the Knights with 20 points and Jayden Fultz added eight.

The Knights will travel to Tucker County at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
