George Barthelemy Jr.

George Freddrick “Fred” Barthelemy Jr, 88, of Thornton, passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, at his residence, with family by his side. He was born on Aug. 22, 1931, in Madison, Ill., son of the late George Freddrick Barthelemy Sr. and Malinda Ruth Stewart Barthelemy Jennings.
Fred served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean War and was stationed at Camp LeJeune, N.C. He enjoyed farming and the outdoors and his dogs. He was a coalminer, timberman with his own sawmill, and he and his wife owned and operated the Barthelemy’s Greenhouse. Fred was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by one son, Larry Barthelemy and Stephanie, of Clarksburg, three daughters, Patty Sigley, of Thornton, Donna Freeman and David, of Thornton, Linda Biddle and Kenneth, of Grafton; six grandchildren, Amy Turner and Jamie, of Oak Grove, Sarah Maxwell and Clay, of Tunnelton, Josh Biddle and April, of Grafton, Bridget Biddle, of Oak Grove, Travis Biddle, of Grafton, Ryan McNemar, of Thornton; six great-grandchildren, Gavan and Ethan Turner, Cody, Wyatt and Lenna Biddle and Holden Maxwell; nephews and wives, Clarence Barthelemy and wife Betty, and Bobby Barthelemy, all of Granite City, Ill.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Pauline Moore Barthelemy in 2013; one son-in-law, Marvin P Sigley, one half brother, Clarence Barthelemy, four stepbrothers and sisters, Maurice Jennings, Archie Ray Jennings, Marquerite McDaniel and Regina Barker.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to Payne Cemetery Association, 272 Barthelemy Drive, Thornton, WV 26440. A special thank you to Dr. Bender, Amedysis Hospice, Sarah Craig, Sydney Sinclair, Sue Davis and Tammy Mayle for helping us care for him at home.

Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave., Newburg, from 2-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, and noon Tuesday, Dec. 3, until the time of the service at 2 p.m., with Pastor David Freeman and Pastor Rick McCauley officiating. Interment will follow at the Payne Cemetery.
