EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — The West Virginia men’s soccer team defeated SIU-Edwardsville 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the MAC Championship on Tuesday.
Rodrigo Robles Grajera scored the lone goal for the Mountaineers (7-8-2) in the 43ard minute of the contest. Tony Pineda notched the assist.
Steven Tekesky pitched a shutout and recorded three saves. WVU’s defense allowed 13 total shots, and just three shots on goal.
The Mountaineers also committed fewer fouls. SIU-Edwardsville (8-5-4) had the advantage in corner kicks 7-1.
WVU advances to the semifinals of the MAC Championship and will face Western Michigan.
