BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Preston keeps on rolling. After defeating University (3-7) 20-19 last week in Kingwood, the Knights hit the road in search of their third-straight win. That’s exactly what they found, overcoming Buckhannon-Upshur 27-14.
J.J. Townsend accounted for two scores on receptions, first picking up a 2-yard score in the second quarter. He added his second shortly after with a 7-yard catch on 4th and 5 from the 7 yard line.
Ayden Bishoff picked up the next score for Preston, dragging 10 guys with him for a 10-yard rush. Townsend connected with Colten Rosenberger on the following 2-point conversion, putting the Knights ahead but still within striking distance of the Buccaneers.
Then, to seal the game in the fourth quarter, Rosenberger plowed through the defensive line on quarterback keep from 30 yards out.
Preston’s defense was pivotal in the 13-point win, forcing six fumbles (recovering one) while logging one interception and six sacks.
The Knights end their season next Friday at Brooke (2-7). The Bruins fell to Class AA’s Weir 54-0 on Friday.
“We feel like if we win next week, 5-5, that’s a definite playoff spot,” Preston coach Jonathan Tennant. “We didn’t have the focus (tonight) we did the last few weeks, but I told the kids that we got our job done, (but) Brooke is going to be a better team than Buckhannon-Upshur. We’re on a 3-0 run because of good practices. We just have to do it again next week.”
