Former WVU football coach Dana Holgorsen owes $5,000 in back rent and almost $20,000 in cleaning and repair fees, according to a lawsuit against him.
Rodney Poland owns a Cheat Lake home and rented it to Candice Holgorsen — the coach’s ex-wife, also named in the suit — for $2,500 a month in August 2018.
Poland filed the suit in Monongalia County Circuit Court Wednesday.
On the day the lease was signed, the coach agreed via text message to pay the rent, the suit states.
“Don’t want my name on this whatsoever. I will pay you directly however on the first on the month instead of giving her the money and having her give to you,” Holgerson texted. “No problem.”
The former coach did pay the security deposit and made rent payments from August 2018 to June 2019, the suit said. Holgerson proactively texted Poland on Jan. 6 to let him know he would send a check once he was in Houston, and on Jan. 15 sent a picture of the check he was sending out.
However, neither of the defendants paid rent for July and August 2019.
The suit also seeks $19,925 in cleaning and repair costs for the home.
Mattresses, a couch, clothing and houseware items were left in the home and removed at a cost of $650, according to an invoice from Mountain State Construction LLC, attached to the lawsuit as an exhibit.
The invoice charges $11,900 to “paint entire unit including water stained ceilings” and $2,150 to “replace painted antique master bath cabinet.”
The home is 2,200 square feet, according to Zillow, a real estate website.
Holgorsen’s custom-built 7,733 square foot home, also in Cheat Lake, is listed for sale at $2.7 million.
The invoice also lists numerous smaller charges for jobs such as fixing a water leak, cleaning the house and carpets and replacing broken curtain rods.
The Dominion Post is attempting to contact Holgerson for comment.
