MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Riley Nett scored twice, including the winning goal in the 70th minute Wednesday to lead the University High boys’ soccer team to a 2-1 victory against Weir at Mylan Pharmaceuticals Stadium.
UHS (11-5) opened the scoring in the 35th minute after a foul was called on Weir. Instead of taking a shot on goal just outside of the box, Justin Parsons played a low ball toward the right side of the Red Raiders defensive wall connecting the pass to Nett, who took a touch toward the right hand post and hit a shot across his body to score.
The Red Raiders tied the match on a free kick, before Nett won the game in the second half.
A shot on goal was stopped by Weir’s keeper, but Nett took the rebound and found the back of the net for the second time to win it.
UHS outshot Weir, 8-2, and had five corner kicks.
The Hawks will travel to Buckhannon-Upshur at 9 a.m. Saturday.
