The Sabraton McDonald’s, across from the Kroger Market Place on Earl L. Core Road, will reopen Oct. 18 following a renovation that is scheduled to take less than two weeks to complete.
The store closed Monday. On Wednesday, two large dumpsters were in front of the restaurant. The inside of the building had been gutted and work was being done on the roof.
The drive-thru will reopen on Oct. 18. The dining room should be ready to open about a week later.
McDonald’s officials could not immediately be reached for comment. More than 90% McDonald’s restaurants in the United States are owned and operated by franchisees. The fast food giant has 14,000 franchises in the U.S.
An article in thespoon.tech, which follows technology developments in the restaurant industry, said McDonald’s is spending $6 billion to modernize most of its restaurants by 2020. The remodeling projects are costing anywhere from $160,000 to $750,000, the website said.
The makeovers at some locations are expected to include new furniture and décor, as well as counters that allow for table service. Included in McDonald’s remodeling plans are the installation of kiosks that will allow a person to make and tailor his food order, as well as pay for it, a company press release said.
John Ebert, owner/operator of 41 McDonald’s, including the Sabraton restaurant, said the kiosks will be available at this location, in addition to front counter service. There will be two drive-thru lanes.
The renovations will make all McDonald’s in Morgantown “modernized,” Ebert said.
Also, some locations will have designated parking spots for curbside pickup, new digital menu bills inside and at the drive through, plus expanded McCafe counters.
Besides Sabraton, McDonald’s has five other locations in the Morgantown area.
