Fire breaks out in Mountainview Road home

A home on Mountainview Road caught fire Friday afternoon but no one was injured, thanks to the 3-year-old who discovered the fire.

Teah Lamar said she was in the bathroom next to the back bedroom where the fire broke out when the 3-year-old nephew of the home’s resident discovered the fire and told her about it.

If it wasn’t for him, Lamar would have had to leave the house through a window, she said.

Lamar said all she saw when she exited the bathroom was smoke and flames.

She grabbed the 3-year-old, left the house and tried to fight the fire with a hose running to the backdoor and buckets of water, but the fire “took off too fast.”

The fire was reported just before 3:30 p.m., according to MECCA 911.

Capt. Robert Skipper with Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department said the fire was under control about 10-15 minutes after firefighters arrived on scene and 15-20 minutes after the call came in.

Skipper did not know if the house would still be usable after the fire was completely extinguished or how much damage was done to the home.

Reedsville VFD, Masontown VFD, Brookhaven VFD, Clinton District VFD and Mon EMS also responded to the fire.
