Kooiman’s hat trick leads Baylor over West Virginia 4-2

WACO, Texas — After defeating Iowa State in the Big 12 opener, West Virginia (6-4-1, 1-1-0) fell to Baylor (6-3-3, 2-1-0) 4-2 behind a hat trick performance by Elizabeth Kooiman at Betty Lou Mays Field in Waco, Texas.

Kooiman was the first to get on the board, netting a goal just before the 50th minute assisted by Ally Henderson.

WVU responded in the 56th minute to tie the match, but Kooiman sank her second goal a minute later to retake the lead.

Two minutes later, Raegan Padgett sank a shot off an assist by Sarah Norman. Kooiman found her hat trick almost 20 minutes later in the 78th minute, assisted by Raegan Padgett and Marissa Gray.

Lizzie Mayfield put in the Mountaineers’ final goal of the night at the 81-minute mark assisted by Alina Stahl, but it came too late to rally for a comeback.

Baylor had the edge in shots, outshooting WVU 17-10. The Bears also had the advantage in shots on goal, putting on eight shots compared to WVU’s three. WVU had the 6-4 edge in corner kicks. This was tied for the most goals in a game allowed by Rylee Foster this season since the loss to Virginia on Sept. 1.
