KINGWOOD — A “glowing recommendation” from a parent won Preston High teacher Caralea Warnick the 2019 Dino Colombo Law Firm Teacher Appreciation Award.
On Tuesday, attorney Jon Godwin, of Colombo Law, presented Warnick with a $200 gift card to use to buy supplies for her classroom.
Warnick was selected from more than 100 teachers nominated for the award, Godwin said.
“You had a glowing recommendation,” Godwin told her.
The nomination was made by a parent who has had one child in Warnick’s classes and has another one in a class now, he said.
This is the first year the award has been given, but the firm does other public service projects, such as providing bike helmets for children, said Eric Coffman, COO with Colombo Law. The firm asked for nominations for teachers who deserve something extra for their classrooms.
Warnick was also PHS’s 2018 Teacher of the Year. She has taught for 23 years, the first five in Taylor County. Then she took two years off to spend time with her first child.
When she returned to teaching, it was at South Preston, where she taught seventh and eighth graders. After another two-year break for family time, she taught again at South, then joined PHS, where she teaches freshmen and sophomores biology.
