Wife testifies husband strangled her at sentencing

KINGWOOD — Joshua Luther Thrasher was sentenced to two years in jail Monday.

Under a plea agreement, Thrasher pleaded to two misdemeanor charges of domestic battery. Three other charges against him were dropped.

Thrasher’s wife testified that she blocked her husband from calling her from jail. This was in violation of a protective order.

“I didn’t want to talk about this,” she said. “CPH has been around. It comes to my children or Josh, it’s not a choice for me.”

When questioned by Judge Stephen Shaffer, she said Thrasher strangled her.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Savannah Wilkens told the court Thrasher didn’t comply with the protective order, home confinement or parole.

“He’s been in this court numerous times. I believe he has a substance abuse problem. I’m asking you to give him one year for each count and run them consecutive,” Wilkens said.

Thrasher’s attorney, Sam Hess said his client has a decent job and has filled out several applications.

“Valley said they would consider helping him. He is asking for probation and will comply with community corrections,” Hess said

Thrasher told the court to consider he has been out of trouble for a long time.

“Consider alternative sentences,” he said. Thrasher said he would comply with community corrections and make all of his appointments.

“As I look to the initial charges there’s two strangulations, domestic assault and fleeing an officer,” Shaffer said. “You have had an opportunity to show me you could do home confinement and probation. You haven’t done anything.”

Shaffer sentenced Thresher to two years in jail to run consecutively and ordered him to pay court costs.
