MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia (6-2-1) hosted Penn (3-3-1) Saturday night and sent them packing with a 3-0 shutout.
Freshman striker Rodrigo Robles Grajera had two goals on the night, and senior midfielder Andres Muriel Albino cleaned up with one.
Robles Grajera’s goals were the first two of the night. Assisted by Ryan Kellogg, Robles Grajera netted the first at the 8:11 mark. His second came in the 67th minute assisted by Pascal Derwaritsch.
Muriel Albino’s goal came just before the 80th minute, and was assisted by Luke McCormick.
West Virginia out-shot Penn 11-9 and had five shots on goal compared to the Quakers’ four. The Mountaineers also had a 10-4 edge in corners.
McCormick and Penn’s Amado Lozano each were shown a yellow card in the contest.
The win sets the Mountaineers up for a home game against San Diego (7-1) on Friday. San Diego defeated UC Riverside 1-0 on Friday, and has a home game on Tuesday against UC Santa Barbara before traveling to Morgantown. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
