Robert ‘Bob’ Martin Sr., 73, of Osage, passed away on Monday Sept. 16, 2019, at the Mon Health Medical Center. Bob was born Oct. 28, 1945, in Mississippi, son to Abraham Reynolds and Dollie Martin.
Bob was a heavy machine operating engineer for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 132. He was a part of many projects in and around the Morgantown area including Interstates 68 and 79. He was also an avid outdoorsman, loved to hunt and fish, tend his garden and care for his community. He was always looking out for his friends, neighbors and the elderly. He would make sure they had food in their pantries and clothes on their backs.
He was instrumental in bringing new infrastructure to the Cassville, Maidsville and Scott’s Run areas of Morgantown. He also was a collector and trader of firearms of various types. Above all else, he cherished time with his grandchildren.
Bob leaves behind to mourn his passing and carry on his legacy, his daughters, Mary Thomas, of Wilmington, N.C., Regina Holloway and husband John ‘Randy,’ of Westover, Robin Martin, Winifred Rollins, Wanda Heyden and spouse Edward and Wilma Lee, all of Morgantown; his sons, Robert Martin Jr., of Fairmont, Reginald Martin and wife Shelley, Roderick Durr, all of Morgantown, and Phillip Lee, of Kenner, La; 27 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and nine siblings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy L. Martin and three siblings.
Friends may call at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, and again from 10 a.m. Friday until time of services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gwen McKinley officiating. Cremation will follow and burial of Bob’s ashes will be held at the Bethel Cemetery at a later date.
