WELLSBURG, W.Va. — The University boys’ soccer team traveled to Brooke on Tuesday, marking the Hawks fourth game in six days and their third-consecutive road trip. Despite the travels, the Hawks won the match 5-0.
The Hawks (5-0) again controlled the ball well along with the pace of the game. Senior Justin Parsons started off the scoring for the Hawks in the 9th minute. Parsons received a pass from sophomore Garrett Scardina and took a shot with the outside of his right foot. The ball curved cleverly from the Bruins’ keeper just inside the far post.
Continuing the scoring, Parsons scored again in the 27th minute. Just 15 seconds later, the Hawks stole the ball from the Bruins kick off and sophomore Evan Acciavatti found Drew Kemper, who beat the keeper at the near post.
After the half, the duo of juniors Kemper and John Michael Jones proved too much for the Bruins defense. Kemper scored two more times, earning the hat trick, with assists by Jones in less than 10 minutes. The Hawks then coasted on the insurmountable five-goal lead.
The Bruins had two shots on goal which were easily saved by goalkeeper Timmy Bailey. Bailey and the Hawks defense tallied their second shutout in five games.
In a rematch of last year’s regional championship, the Hawks host Wheeling Park on Thursday.
