Osage residents are hopeful that a longtime eyesore in the middle of their community is finally going away.
On Thursday, work crews began tearing down and hauling away debris from the crumbling brick building located on Scotts Run Road, next to Al Anderson’s shoe repair shop.
Clean up began Thursday on a dilapidated structure in Osage that has been a eyesore for a year. The owner of the property, Steve Morris, is responsible for demolishing the building.
The building, owned by Steve Morris, has been on the county radar for some time. During the June 19 meeting of the Monongalia County Commission, Morris was given 60 days to clean up the mess before a $100 daily fine kicked in.
Monongalia County Litter Control Agent Tim Fitchett said Morris was given notice on Wednesdays that the fines were starting.
Fitchett also said the work on the site was not being done by the county.
Terry Bearce, whose mother is a lifelong Osage resident living across the street from the building, said they’re glad there’s finally some movement on a longstanding sore spot in the small community.
“It should have never been allowed to go on this long,” Bearce said. “But we’re glad to see something happening.”
