MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Emily Lattea scored three times, which was more than enough for the University High girls’ soccer team in a 6-0 win against Linsly on Wednesday at Mylan Pharmaceuticals Stadium.
Tristen Bright added two more and University (2-1) rebounded from a tough loss at Parkersburg South on Tuesday.
Senior Talia Knicely opened the scoring, deflecting in a Morgan Ryan corner at the near post just 10 minutes into the game.
Lattea, a freshman, scored twice in the first half and Bright once on shots from inside the Linsly penalty area.
Lattea also added an assist and Ryan and Madison Wesolowsky each added two assists.
Sophomore Rachel Works made six saves in goal for the Hawks. It was her first career shutout.
“I’m proud of the way we bounced back, after last night,” UHS head coach Graham Peace said. “We have a really positive vibe in the team, and that came through tonight. It was fun to watch.”
The Hawks travel to Martinsburg at 11 a.m. Saturday.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Drew Kemper’s goal with five minutes remaining Wednesday was the difference for the University High boys’ soccer team.
Kemper took a pass from the back line and went to the right corner to give the Hawks (2-0) the win in their home opener.
The Hawks were stunned early, as a defensive breakdown lead to a Linsly goal, but were able to respond minutes later after a Linsly foul in the penalty area.
Senior Pierce Spain took the shot and was momentarily stopped by the Linsly keeper, but followed his shot and put the ball in the back of the net off the rebound.
The Hawks took 14 shots compared to Linsly’s 2. Hawks goal keeper Timmy Bailey ended the match with two saves.
UHS will travel to Parkersburg South at 6 p.m. Thursday.
