The I-79 Mazda dealership in Mount Morris, Pa., just over the Pennsylvania border, will be closing its doors at the end of the month according to an Aug. 19 email sent to customers.
Officials from the Greene County dealership did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
“The purpose of this email is to regretfully inform you that I-79 Mazda will be closing as of August 31, 2019,” the I-79 Mazda email said. “We will be happy to take care of your basic service needs at our new I-79 Honda and Pre-Owned location in Morgantown, WV, just off of Exit 155. We also can assist you in making arrangements for any additional service work needed to be done by the closest Mazda dealer.”
With the closure of the Mount Morris dealership, the closest Mazda dealership to the Morgantown area is Budd Baer Mazda in Washington, Pa.
The announced closure of the I-79 Mazda, owned by Joe Romeo, comes just days after Romeo celebrated the grand-opening of its new Morgantown I-79 Honda dealership in Gateway Center. The dealership also had been located in Mount Morris.
“As always, we appreciate your business and loyalty over the past years and we look forward to serving you in any way we can as we start a new chapter in West Virginia,” the company said in the Aug. 19 email.
The Greene County dealership site is 6.11 acres, and has 40,000-plus square feet of building space, according to its listing with Black Diamond Realty LLC of Morgantown. No list price was given.
The Honda building is 20,021 square feet, the Mazda building is 11,500 square feet and the building for pre-owned vehicles is 9,000 square feet, according to the listing.
Besides I-79 Honda, the Romeo family also runs Joe’s Cars, a used car dealership, in Fairmont.
