MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — According to information released by West Virginia athletics, prized recruit Oscar Tshiebwe did not travel with the WVU men’s basketball team on its tour of Spain.
WVU said Tshiebwe, a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, did not travel due to visa restrictions.
The Mountaineers landed in Madrid early Sunday and will play the first of three exhibition games at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, against the Madrid All-Stars.
Tshiebwe, who first came to the United States as a high school freshman, starred at Kennedy Catholic (Hermitage, Pa.) last season, leading the Golden Eagles to the Class 6A state title as a senior.
The 6-foot-9 forward was later named a McDonald’s All-American.
He became the first five-star recruit to sign with the Mountaineers since Devin Ebanks in 2008.
All three of West Virginia’s exhibition games are live streamed by FloHoops. The Mountaineers will also play Valencia Basketball Academy on August 9 and the Barcelona All-Stars on August 11.
