Ieda Marie Messenger Darnell, 84, formerly of Bruceton Mills (Pisgah Community) went to be with her Lord late Thursday evening, July 25, 2019, at Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown following a lengthy illness.
Born May 20, 1935, in Morgantown, she was a daughter of the late James Andrew and Nancy Metheny Messenger.
Survivors include five children, Warren Darnell and his wife Barbara of Laurel Point, Sherrie Temple and her husband Rick of Cassville, Shelia Morgan and her husband Ken of Bridgeport, Tena Snider of Bruceton Mills and Mike Darnell and his wife Julie of Bruceton Mills; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her devoted partner, Sam Hollis of Morgantown.
She will be remembered by her children for her great strength and determination. She had a great love for her animals and her farm. She was a divorced mother of five children, and with the help of God and her parents, she worked very hard to keep her family together.
Family and friends will gather to honor Ieda’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Morgantown / Westover on Monday, July 29, from 1-3 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. until the time of the service at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Vicki D. Sheppard officiating. Following the funeral service, Ieda will be cremated and inurnment will be held at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery at Pisgah.
