Insensitivity to human
need what’s ‘disgusting’
Let’s be clear, in response to Michelle Malkin’s rage (DP-Thursday), no Lutheran organization creates people at the border that need help.
No Lutheran organization is an agent of “subversion.” No Lutheran organization withholds funds from the pursuit of “compassion and Christian morality.” No Lutheran organization is a “profit-seeking machine” disguised as something else.
Consumed by her rage, It is not clear exactly what Malkin proposes. Does Malkin really believe that the 500,000 refugees and migrants Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service has welcomed over more than eight decades are now “aliens” that should be sent back to their own planet?
Does she favor the “separation of families” and no reunification efforts? These are two positions which LIRS opposes? Does she oppose empowering and equipping new migrants to become useful members of American society?
LIRS has resettled thousands of migrants and helped even more children. There is nothing in their goals about “hoisting foreign flags,” nor does it aim to “erase our borders.”
Bottom line: Withdrawing help from immigrants equals more human suffering: More suffering, equals more fear, and more national division.
If Malkin could just control her penchant for hyperbole and get over her raw hatred, she might be able to see things more clearly. Lutheran response to human need is not “disgusting.” Insensitivity to human need is.
