MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – On Friday, West Virginia redshirt junior tight end Jovani Haskins was named to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List.
In 12 games last season, Haskins finished with 16 catches for 148 yards and one touchdown. His best performance came in West Virginia’s 42-41 edging of Texas, hauling in four catches for 33-yards.
Other notable games included Baylor and Oklahoma. He logged three catches for 33-yards against the Bears and registered his career-long 17-yard in the loss to the Sooners.
Each year, the John Mackey Award is given to the most outstanding collegiate tight end. The recipient is selected by vote of the award selection committee, and will be announced on December 11, 2019 and then presented live on December 12 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
Haskins is among three tight ends from the Big 12 on the watch list, including Oklahoma’s Grant Calcaterra and Iowa State’s Charlie Kolar.
The award is named after the NFL Hall of Fame member, and is the model player in the position. It is one of the most prestigious awards given to college football players.
Established in 2000, notable award-winners include Heath Miller, Matt Spaeth, Tyler Eifert, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Hunter Henry and T.J. Hockenson.
