Bob Pirner understands the importance of those who care. This comes after a decade of experience as the director of development at PACE Enterprises Inc.

“I’ve been involved for years with people with disabilities,” Pirner said. “Being in this business for so long, you are able to help people with disabilities seek their own value and worth.”

In August, the nonprofit will elect a caregiver for outstanding efforts and contributions to the lives of people with disabilities.

The Helping Hands Award was created to bring recognition to caregivers in the north-central West Virginia area.

“Seeing the impact and being able to find employment and see the success for people with disabilities,” Pirner said.

Greg Morris, president and CEO of PACE Enterprises, has worked for the nonprofit for more than 10 years.

“It’s very rewarding to see the joy and contentment on the employees’ faces,” Morris said. “Not everyone has the same blessings and it’s rewarding to work with people that need more help than others.”

This award has been given to family caregivers for two years.

PACE Enterprises is led by the community and provides prevocational as well as vocational opportunities to people with disabilities.

It also is an employment placement program for residents with disabilities.
Nominations for the award should recognize the passion, work and dedication shown by the caregivers. The award gives them proper recognition from the community, for making sure their loved ones are “safe, clean and happy,” Pirner said.

In previous years, nominees were selected for the award based on “specific abilities shown by the caregiver, to assure they protect the individual with disability and make sure they are properly cared for.”

The deadline to nominate someone is Aug. 12. Nomination forms can be found at paceenterprises.org. To donate to the cause, go to pace2020.org.
