Council reviews business licenses; Reedsville mayor rethinks proposed state fees

REEDSVILLE — Council had to rethink its proposed business license fees for mobile homes and apartments.

Reedsville cannot charge $25 per mobile home or apartment unit, Mayor Jason Titus said at Monday’s meeting. Titus said town attorney Mark Gaydos advised him, “It has to be $25 per business, even if two separate buildings are involved,” the mayor said.

Reedsville recently adopted the state business license fee schedule and cannot charge a higher amount for a license than the state charges. The state base charge is $30.

The mayor said Reedsville also said council has to issue a
business permit to Carl Alston for “bungalows.” Titus said he checked with the State Fire Marshal’s office and was told the office does not have jurisdiction over one and two-family dwellings.

Titus said Gaydos told him the only stipulation the town can make is what is in town code. He said the bungalows have to be 25 feet from the edge of the road and have a 7-foot-6-inch clearance front and back for fire safety.

In other business, the Reedsville Park has several additions. An adaptive swing was installed and new swing seats and benches will soon be in place.

Councilwoman Britney Titus said Fibair offered the town $1,500 to refurbish the basketball court. An individual also offered financial help. Councilwoman Renee Stone volunteered to paint the damaged park restroom door when weather permits.
