Former West Virginia safety Derrek Pitts enrolls at Marshall

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Two weeks after entering the NCAA transfer portal, former West Virginia defensive back Derrek Pitts has enrolled at Marshall.

Thundering Herd athletics director Mike Hamrick confirmed the move Wednesday to The Dominion Post and WVMetroNews.

Pitts and fellow safety Kenny Robinson were two projected defensive starters who transferred from WVU within the past month.

A four-star recruit from South Charleston High, Pitts signed with the Mountaineers in 2017. Rivals ranked him the top prospect in the state that year and the No. 23 safety nationally.

He appeared in 19 games over two seasons at West Virginia, making a career 36 tackles and forcing one fumble. His lone interception came in last December’s loss to Syracuse in the Camping World Bowl.

Against Iowa State last season, he returned a blocked field goal 72 yards for a touchdown.

Pitts has two years eligibility remaining, plus a potential redshirt season at his disposal.
