Elizabeth Alletta Cain

Elizabeth Alletta Cain, a beacon of love and faith, peacefully concluded her journey on Earth Tuesday, March 4, 2025, surrounded by the warmth of her family home in Morgantown. Born February 3, 1939, in Elkins, she was a lifelong teacher and an embodiment of compassion and thoughtfulness.
She was the beloved wife of Lloyd Chapman Cain, sharing 67 tender years of marriage filled with devotion and mutual support.
Elizabeth’s passion for education led her to Elkins High School’s commencement stage and later to the halls of West Virginia University, where she became a proud alumna, earning a master’s degree and distinguishing herself as the first in her family to achieve such academic heights. For over three decades, she shared her love for learning with countless students, investing in their lives with a mission to inspire and transform. Her dedication extended beyond local classrooms to a brief but impactful period teaching at a grade school in Zimbabwe, symbolizing her commitment to education as a universal language.
Elizabeth’s life was rich with voluntary service, marked by her leadership as the 1st chair in the Elkins Forest Festival’s 1957 and 1958 Queen’s Coronation.
Elizabeth’s faith was the cornerstone of her existence, evident in her active participation as a Sunday school teacher and her involvement in Christian missions and work teams, which took her across five continents. She was also a member of the Pray Shaw Ministry at Woodland UMC.
Her nurturing heart found joy in simple pleasures, such as reading her Bible on her porch swing, walking along the beach, and cherishing moments with her cherished family, including her sons, David Cain (Kim) and Daniel Cain; and her adored grandchildren, Megan Butler (Ryan), Baylee Cain, Paige Cain, Katy Cain, and Zach Cain; and bonus grandchildren, Kristin and Grant
Rumble.
Elizabeth’s legacy is etched in the brilliant tapestry of lives she touched. Her loving, faith-filled, and thoughtful presence will forever resonate with those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Friends may gather from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 7, in the Woodland United Methodist Church, and again from 10 until the 11 a.m. service time Saturday, March 8, with Pastor Todd Hurley officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins, WV at a time convenient for her family.
