Charles Snider Sr.

Charles Snider Sr., 91, of Meshoppen, Pa., passed away Thursday morning, February 6, 2025, in Allied Hospice Services,
Scranton.
He was born July 5, 1933, in Mannington, to John and Mary VanSickle Snider.
He eloped with his sweetheart and love of his life, the late Eileen Fluharty (d. March 23, 2022), April 24, 1952. They were due to celebrate 70 years of marriage the year she passed away (2022).
Together, they had two children, the late Charles Roy Snider Jr. (d. June 11, 2024) and late Julie Ann Snider (d. August 13, 2024). He lived with his family in Baton Rouge, La. and Pentress. He later moved to DeFuniak Springs, Fla.
Charles worked many years as maintenance engineer/construction manager for GE Chemicals in Morgantown.
He was a member of the Jaycees in Louisiana, proud to have served as president for a time. He was also a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Charles was a crucial part of the creation and development of Mason-Dixon Historical Park in Core.
He was proud of his Christian faith as a member of the Church of Christ.
After retiring, he built a campground and named it Indian Meadows. Here, many family reunions, good times, great memories, and friends were made.
He and Eileen traveled around the country for a few years while volunteering with Sojourners, building churches and visiting family and friends.
Charles was extremely fond of classic cars, particularly a 1931 Chevy, a 1951 Chevy truck, and a 1931 Sharknose Graham. Those who were lucky enough to get a ride in it, may also remember the old firetruck that he restored. He enjoyed driving these vehicles in parades. His other hobby included dabbling in jewelry making. He made many pieces for friends and family out of his “rock shop”.
He had an uncanny ingenuity to be able to create magnificent things from anything, be it a piece of jewelry or a part needed for the tractor.
He was a very caring, charismatic, and charming gentleman who gave out big hugs. He loved all his family and cherished time spent together. He loved a good joke and had a warm smile. Charles was very social, enjoyed fellowship, and would talk to just about anyone. He will be dearly missed, but his love will be carried on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Charles is survived by his grandchildren, Valerie Werle (Sascha) of Meshoppen, Jacklyn Snider, Joanie Valois (Marc), and Diana Hemphill; his great grandchildren, Jakob Charles Werle, Benjamin John Werle, Jeffrey Daniel Werle, Lee Wildman Snider, Bauer Jayne Tubel, Ryleigh Danielle Tubel, Caden Snider Tubel, Raegan Schofield, Marilyn Valois, and Vincent Valois; his brother, William Snider; his daughter-in-law, Sharon Snider of Chapel Hill, N.C.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, wife, and children, Charles was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Alan Snider (d. June 21, 2010); his great- granddaughter, Monti Ellen Valois (d. September 20, 2013); and his siblings, John Snider (d. September 12, 2019), Ruth Castagneri (d. June 19, 2018), Dorothy Steele (d. July 3, 2007), Juanita McDonald (d. April 1, 2005).
