Carol Ann Sliker

Carol Ann Sliker, 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in Morgantown, after spending the day with her daughters and grandchildren.
Born October 31, 1938, Carol was known for her resilience, hardworking nature, artistic talents (recently illustrating a children’s book written by her daughter), humor, and generosity. She often prepared meals for her friends at Friendship Manor, quickly becoming known for her soups, lemon pie, peanut butter cake and raisin-filled cookies.
Carol graduated from University High School in 1956. She was elected to Girls State and received a Key Of Art for her talents.
She worked extremely hard at various Morgantown businesses including the Morgantown Shirt Factory, Mont Chateau and Lakeview Inn before becoming a court reporter. Her dedication to work was paralleled only by commitment to family and friends.
In her spare time she had many hobbies, which included reading, puzzling, crocheting, sketching and painting. While retired in Ocala, Fla. she volunteered at Divine Providence Ministries Thrift Store.
Four years ago she returned to her Morgantown roots and had a wonderfully happy life living independently near her family and among new-found friends at Friendship Manor.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Fowler (Joe Skalican), Laura Gibson (Greg), and Jennifer Parisi (Seb); son Emil Fowler II; grandchildren, Jessica Walls, Derrick Walls, Chelsea Gibson, Stefanie Brister and Leigh Keener; two great- grandchildren,
Mason Joseph Barlow and Ella Layne Brister; her brothers, Allan Areford and Avalon Hawkins; and sister, Linda Longstreth.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Areford and Dorothy Wheeler Hawkins; daughter, Christine Walls Putkowski; brothers, Pete Areford and Harry Areford; and sister, Ruth
Baker.
The family would like to thank the many physicians and staff that provided wonderful care from several departments at WVU Medicine. Also, thanks to the WVU Hospice team for their quick response and compassion during Carol’s brief stay at Sundale.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a food bank or charity of your choice.
Friends may join the family to honor Carol’s life and legacy at a memorial visitation from 2 until 4 p.m., when a memorial service will be held, Sunday, February 16, in Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Avenue, Westover, (304) 292-9494, with Pastor Steve Wotring officiating.
