FedEx update: Deliveries arrive misplaced, battered

MORGANTOWN – This week’s update on the FedEx trials and tribulations shows that people are receiving their deliveries – but not necessarily in the right place or in good shape.

A Wednesday post on the Complaints Against Morgantown FedEx Terminal Facebook page is characteristic:

“Been getting FedEx deliveries for years and they have always put them on my porch. But yesterday I finally got several orders that I’ve been waiting on for weeks and instead of putting them on my porch they threw them out at my mailbox, that I can’t even see from my home. And one item was cat litter in a cardboard box that should never been put out on the soaking wet ground, as the cardboard soaked up the moisture and it looks like the bottom is going to come out of it at any minute. Another order was cattle vaccines in a cooler that sat in their warehouse for three weeks that is no longer any good. Horrible service!!!”

FedEx has previously responded to all inquires from The Dominion Post, but did not respond to two requests for comment on questions sent Friday.

Another person posted on Monday: “We subscribe to a weekly meal service delivering frozen food. For two weeks in a row, the food box has arrived six days late!! With the ice pack and protein completely defrosted!”

And responding to some comments on the original post, they said, “The subscription service has given us a credit for the late boxes. But it clearly says on the box that it’s a food service. I would think FedEx would know that it was perishable!”

Another post prompted several sympathetic replies. It says, “Finally got my FedEx package today, 18 days late, left in the snow by the mailbox (a few steps from my neighbor’s covered porch), and the box very beat up.”

Three responses: “I really dislike their new policy of throwing things out at our mailboxes vs putting it on our porches. Question: are they still going to do this if it is pouring down rain?”

And, “Both my delayed deliveries were in beat up boxes.”

And (commenting on the photo), “Looks like my Chewy box yesterday. One bag of cat food missing, but glad to get something!”

FedEx told The Dominion Post on Jan. 31, “We continue to run contingencies (securing additional delivery resources, extending operation hours, and expanding package sorts). As always, customers with questions can visit fedex.com for package tracking and customer service assistance.

“We are on target to be current with deliveries by this weekend in all areas that are safely accessible. We continue to implement contingencies to deliver as quickly as possible to areas still impacted by winter weather and appreciate everyone’s patience.”

But not everything is getting through yet. This was posted on Wednesday: “Ugh I knew I was taking a chance when I saw FedEx was delivering, but ugh, really…. scanned as out for delivery then suddenly says held up in Memphis.”

The accompanying tracking image shows the shipment arrived in Memphis, Tenn., on Monday, arrived in Morgantown at 9:09 a.m. Tuesday and went out for delivery at 9:38 a.m.

The item was imported from China and previously received an imported shipment release in Memphis. But at 11:20 a.m., after it went out for delivery in Morgantown, it was marked, “Clearance in progress.”

At 11:25 a.m., it was back at the station. And 10:03 p.m., it was back in Memphis, marked, “Clearance delay – Import, in clearance process.”
