MORGANTOWN – FedEx is making some progress. It’s not rosy yet, but long-delayed packages are starting to arrive.
It’s not rosy yet, posts on the Complaints Against Morgantown FedEx Terminal indicate. Some packages are arriving in bad shape, or being dropped off at the wrong place.
And the problem is not confined to Morgantown, as we’ve noted previously. Charleston, Huningon, Parkersburg and Clarksburg have also seen delays – stemming from mid-December and extending through the recent snowstorms.
FedEx told The Dominion Post on Friday: “We continue to run contingencies (securing additional delivery resources, extending operation hours, and expanding package sorts). As always, customers with questions can visit fedex.com for package tracking and customer service assistance.
“We are on target to be current with deliveries by this weekend in all areas that are safely accessible. We continue to implement contingencies to deliver as quickly as possible to areas still impacted by winter weather and appreciate everyone’s patience.”
Among the glitches are one person who posted that their package was marked as delivered on Thursday was not there. The person discovered – via a postage due slip in the mailbox on Friday – that the package had been taken to the post office. The person learned there that FedEx packages are not by law permitted to be left in mailboxes, and was told that the Post Office has been told to pick up all FedEx packages left in mailboxes and charge for handing them over.
This appears to be supported by federal law. A 1997 congressional report says, “The Postal Service believes that this law, generally called the ‘mailbox restriction,’ is needed to protect postal revenue, facilitate efficient and secure delivery of mail, and promote the privacy of postal customers. Some major competitors of the service believe the mailbox restriction law should be repealed because, in their view, it is unnecessary, unfair, and adversely affects their delivery operations.”
Another person posted: “I finally got my packages today! They were supposed to be here on January 6th. But wait for this! It was delivered to the house next door no one has lived at in 6 years. Not only that, the driver just threw the packages in the snow where the water from the roof was dripping all over them.”
Three others: “3rd and final package just delivered by FedEx. This pkg from Chewy was originally supposed to be delivered January 6th.”
“I received my last package after waiting a month.”
And, “I received a package today that was supposed to be delivered on 1-27. Not as long of a delay as many of you have had to endure, so hopefully this is a sign things are starting to improve as far as deliveries go. Good luck to everybody.”
But others are still waiting and still unhappy. We’ll close with this one: “Someone better tell FedEx that if I don’t get what I ordered by the end of the month I’m probably going to riot. I ordered something at the beginning of January, it’s been out for delivery for 3 weeks and I quite literally might lose it. Now I ordered new chicken feed last week and guess what? Out for delivery from Morgantown, just delayed. I literally have 100 lbs of chicken feed sitting on a truck and brakes for my car that have been ‘out for delivery’ since January 4.”
