Thomas Carl “Tom” Brown passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 11, 2025, in Ellenton, Fla., as the result of an automobile accident.
Born September 26, 1943, and raised in Fairmont, Tom graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1962. During his school years, he was a member of the marching band, where he played the trumpet, and was a member of the golf team, sparking a lifelong passion for golf. As a young man, he had the opportunity to caddy for Sam Snead at Fox Hill Country Club, which was a big moment for him. Later in life he would follow the career of Tiger Woods, his favorite golfer.
Tom also enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Tampa Bay Rays.
He later retired to Ellenton, in 2017, where he played golf regularly.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, George Thomas and Ruth Queen Brown.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Judy Weaver Brown; his sons, John (Amy Bowen), and Joseph (Kelly Howell); his granddaughters, Sophia, Madison, Sarah and Olivia; and his great- granddaughter, Harper.
Throughout his life, Tom found joy in both sports and community involvement and was an avid bowler who participated in numerous leagues. In his younger years, he coached T-ball and Little League teams before dedicating over 30 years as an umpire for high school and college baseball games. His dedication to sports left a lasting impact on many young athletes.
At home, Tom and Judy’s door was always open and it brought Tom great joy to have his granddaughters and kids from his neighborhood around to play games, swim, and to get free snacks from the Lance truck.
Professionally, Tom worked for Lance, Inc., Tasty Cake, and the Flowers Company during his career.
Tom’s memory will be cherished by those who knew him for his love of family, sportsmanship, and unwavering commitment to his community. May his legacy bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
