Thomas Wood Sanders, 86, of Wadestown, died Saturday, January 18, 2025, in the Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, surrounded by his family.
Tom was born May 21, 1938, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Ralph Remembrance Sanders and Aileen Louise McQuaid Sanders.om worked as a coal miner having retired from the CONSOL Blacksville #2 Mine in Wana.
He was known as quite a handyman in the Wadestown area. He worked on all types of equipment for many of his neighbors—if it was broken or wouldn’t run, he could fix it. Most of all Tom loved his farm. During the summer you could always find him in the fields baling hay. A favorite pastime was attending auctions, flea markets, yard sales, and wheeling and dealing in his
driveway.
Tom was a member and deacon of the West Warren Baptist Church in Wadestown; a member of the Littleton Lodge #131 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons in Hundred; and a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served at the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Doug and Kim Sanders of Wadestown, and Dirk Sanders and fiancee Kristie of Pentress; one brother and his wife, George and Loretta Sanders of Bula; and two grandchildren, whom he was especially proud of, Lacey and Logan Sanders. Tom also leaves behind many special people that he was blessed to call friends and neighbors, especially the Altfather and the VanScyoc families of Wadestown.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Twyla Lee Conaway Sanders; one brother, Jim Sanders; and two sisters, Mary E. Moore and Nancy Miller.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the John Manchin Sr. Assisted Living Center in Farmington for all of the care and love shown to Tom while he was a resident there for the last two and a half years.
Friends may call at The Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, W.Va., from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, with Pastor Bob Scharnhorst officiating. Interment will follow in the Eakin-Wana Memorial Cemetery at Wana.
