Maurice James “Tater” Miller, 95, a lifelong resident of Morgantown, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in MonHealth Medical Center. He was born December 24, 1929, in Morgantown, a son of the late Walker Hott Miller and Eleanor Laura Meligan.
He was a 1948 graduate of Morgantown High School and a United States Army veteran, where he was a radar technician specializing in developing high speed radar.
He was also the owner of Miller’s Laundromat and Tater Miller Sign Company.
His love for the outdoors led him to take trips with his family to festivals and go on fishing trips. He became an avid runner and enjoyed doing marathons and 10K races.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elsie Conner Miller, three sons: Lee (Kimberlee) Miller of Fairmont, Ty (Christina) Miller of Fairmont, and Shawn Miller of Morgantown; grandchildren, Jacob Miller, Job Miller, Tysa Morris, and Kara Miller; stepgrandson, Jason Burdette, and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Jo Gainer.
Family and friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 26, in Dering-Henson Funeral Home, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 27. Burial will follow in the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
