Sandra S. “Sandy” Chiccarella Harbert, 78, of Morgantown, W.Va., passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024 with her loving husband.
Sandy was born in Clarksburg, W.Va. to the late L.A. and Doreatha Smith Chiccarella on May 17, 1946. She married Larry K. Harbert on August 30, 1963. They lived in various cities in WV during Larry’s career with Allegheny Power, then several years after retirement they moved to Myrtle beach, SC, where they lived for 8 years. They moved back to Morgantown in March 2021 due to health issues. Due to various moves, they were privileged to be members of several Church of Christ congregations, forming lifelong friendships with other Christians. Sandy had been a member of the Church of Christ since 1970 and was active in several congregations during this time span. Most recently, she was a member of the University Church of Christ in Westover, WV.
In addition to her being the wife of Larry; Sandy was the mother of Christopher S. Harbert (Carol) of Morgantown, WV; grandmother to Nicholas Harbert, Hannah Harbert, and Liane Severe; great-grandmother to Ayven Harbert and Zayne Harbert; sister to living sister, Judy Fleece of Shinnston, W.Va.; aunt to Shannon Fleece Richards of Lost Creek, W.Va. and Tommy Fleece of Shinnston, WV.
In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her middle sister, Norma Rose; brothers, Tom Fleece, Allen Harbert, Benjamin Harbert, and Paul Rose; and nephew, Brent Rose.
Beyond her love for her family Sandy enjoyed playing tennis in her younger years, crocheting, traveling, photography of family, card making, scrapbooking, reading, and generally staying active. She made 100s of greeting cards over the years, each as unique and as special as their recipients. She also loved to bake and cook for family and friends and shared many of her “sweets” with others. She was fascinated with searching for her ancestry. She was also an avid WVU basketball fan. But above all, she loved the Lord.
Sandy retired from BB&T Bank as an Assistant VP, specializing in mortgage lending. She worked in mortgage lending for 22 years. Prior to that she worked n retail banking, and studied and received her realtor’s license working three years as a Realtor in Parkersburg, WV. She graduated with honors in 1964 from Lumberport High School.
