Ronnie Charles Rakosi, 71, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 22, 2024, in WVU Medicine in Morgantown. Born September 23, 1953, to the late Otis and Marcella Rife Rakosi, Ronnie’s life was a testament to the values of family, hard work, and community.
Ronnie leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Pamela Vannoy Rakosi, who was his partner in life and love. Their bond was foundational to the beautiful family they built and nurtured together: their daughters, Amy Todd (Jason), and Abby Coulter (Jonathan); and son, Joshua Rakosi (Crystal). He also leaves a legacy of joy in his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Pap: Gavin Coulter, Lane Todd, Erin Todd, Paola Rakosi, Nevaeh Todd, and Franco Rakosi, who will deeply miss his presence and guiding light; along with several nieces and nephews.
A twin brother to Rodney Rakosi and brother to Kimberly Bell and the late Barbara Fiorini, Donna Wolfe, and Sandra McCabe, Ronnie’s strong family ties extended through generations. The Rakosi family shared countless memories of laughter, support, and love that will remain with them forever.
Ronnie’s career as a proud coal miner and dedicated United Mine Workers of America member echoed his deep sense of solidarity and commitment to his colleagues. His friends at the union remember him as not only a coworker but a true comrade.
Life beyond the mines saw Ronnie embracing his role as a Little League coach, sharing his passion for sports and encouraging young athletes with patience and wisdom.
Outside of work, Ronnie was known for his friendly and welcoming nature. He never missed an opportunity to make others feel special. This generosity of spirit extended to his social life, where he savored moments spent playing cards, traveling with dear friends, Mike and Debbie to destinations like Pigeon Forge, and following the Mountaineers.
Ronnie’s enthusiastic conversation with lifelong friends Butch and Mike will be warmly remembered, celebrating or lamenting each game’s outcome. Ronnie was a beacon of love and friendliness, leaving behind a community enriched by his kindness. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories and love he imparted to all who knew him.
Friends may gather from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, December 28, in McCulla Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 6 p.m., with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Following the service, McCulla Funeral Home will provide cremation services.
