Michael Wayne Jones

Michael Wayne Jones, known affectionately as “Mike” by his loving family and friends, passed away peacefully Monday, December 23, 2024, in Morgantown, the same town where his journey began February 25, 1952.
Mike was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who lived his 72 years with kindness and a steadfast commitment to his family and community.
Mike leaves behind a loving family who revered him dearly. His devoted wife of 47 years, Virginia Louise Eddy Jones of Core, remained a cornerstone of his life. He was a proud father to his daughter, Mandi Wilson (Travis) of Pentress; and stepson, Robert Tucker (Malissa) of Elkton, Md. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Sydney, Micah, Sarah, Hannah and Josiah, who brought him immeasurable joy.
Mike was a dear brother to Mary Ruth Johnson, Lois Dittman (Terry), John Jones, David Jones (Donna), and Robert “Bobby” Jones (Stacie); and an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. His life was enriched by an extensive tapestry of extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. Jones and Marie Garrison Jones; brother-in-law, Ronald Johnson; and sister-in- law, Shirley Jones.
Dedicated to hard work, Mike spent years as a coal miner and heavy equipment operator, his robust spirit evident in his love for working outdoors and on the farm. He had a creative soul, and could often be found carving canes from old tree roots, each a work of art and piece of himself.
As a long-time attendee of Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle, his faith was an integral part of his life. Described universally as kind, he leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and love – a reflection of the life he led and the hearts he touched.
Family and friends are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 27, and again from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, December 28, with Pastor Rose Saunders officiating. Following the service, Mike will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
