A standoff at Cranston & Edwards law firm that began Monday afternoon appeared to have ended peacefully after nearly six hours.
According to multiple online reports, a man with a gun walked into the offices of the Morgantown attorneys, but it wasn’t immediately known if there were hostages or shots fired.
Morgantown City Police, Monongalia County Sheriff, West Virginia State Police and Mon EMS were on the scene, and a number of officers could be seen entering the building, which is located at 1200 Dorsey Ave.
No agency released any details, but it appeared as though a handcuffed man was led from the building around 7 p.m., according to a WDTV 5 video.
Authorities diverted traffic in the area — and Monongalia County Schools said some buses would not be able to pick up students from Morgantown High and the MTEC, the county Technical Education Center.
Parents were instructed to pick up their children by car as part of the directive that also affected students from South Middle and Mountainview Middle.
None of the schools was placed on lockdown, Superintendent Eddie Campbell Jr. said.
“We were in constant communication with police throughout the day,” he said.
A motive behind the standoff or why the law firm was targeted was not immediately known.
