MORGANTOWN — In a Wednesday afternoon press release, the city of Morgantown announced Gary Freshour has been appointed to serve as the next chief of the Morgantown Fire Department. His appointment comes after the retirement of both Chief Eugene Deem and Interim Chief John Lemley.
“I am honored to be the new fire chief of the Morgantown Fire Department,” Freshour is quoted as saying. “I feel thankful to continue serving the people of Morgantown in this new capacity. I will continue to work diligently to ensure that our citizens and visitors are safe.”
Freshour joined the MFD in 2005 as a probationary firefighter. Since then, he has been a first class firefighter, lieutenant, and crew captain. Before employment with Morgantown, he served as a volunteer firefighter with the Star City Volunteer Fire Department.
“The department is in good hands with Gary Freshour,” City Manager Kim Haws said. “We are fortunate to have him in this leadership position. His wealth of knowledge and extensive background in fire management makes him an excellent fit for the role.”
According to the city, a ceremony will be held in the coming months to celebrate the appointment of additional new officers within the Morgantown Fire Department.
