Republicans win races for W.Va. secretary of state, attorney general

MORGANTOWN – Republicans handily won the statewide races for secretary of state and attorney general Tuesday night.

With 791 of 1,657 precincts reporting in the attorney general’s race, Republican J.B. McCuskey held a commanding lead over Democrat Teresa Toriseva.

McCuskey, currently state auditor, had 268,338 votes (68%) to Toriseva’s 124,698 (32%).

In the secretary of state’s race, Republican Kris Warner was on his way to succeed his brother, current Secretary of State Mac Warner.

With 793 precincts reporting, Warner likewise held a commanding lead. He had 279,341 votes (71%) to Democrat Thornton Cooper’s 116,335 (29%).

Republican Larry Pack was unopposed in the state treasurer’s race.

When all the precincts are in, results will remain unofficial pending canvassing.
