Emma Virginia Gibson Harned, 95, of Bruceton Mills, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024. A daughter of the late Thomas Hall and Alta May Christopher Gibson, she was born February 11, 1929, in Hudson/Mt. Nebo.
She was delighted to share her birthday with her great-nephew, Randy Rhodes; and great-niece, Shannon O’Connor.
She was a 1948 graduate of Kingwood High School and attended Mt. Moriah Church.
Emma was a bookkeeper for most of her working career and retired from Rockville Mining.
She loved crafting, but her greatest love was piecing and quilting with her mother, sister, and niece, Debbie.
Surviving are her nephews, Harold Gibson and Robert (Lela) Bishop; her nieces, Vida McCord, Debra (W. Allen) Wolfe, Joyce Tatham, and Judy Anne (Robert) O’Connor; and her niece-in-law, Shirley Bishop. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Judy Harned and Betty Harned; brothers-in-law, Max (Regis) Harned, and Ronald (Julia) Harned; and several other nieces and nephews. Emma never had children of her own, but always spoiled her nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul E. Harned; brothers and their spouses, Howard (Irene), Darvin (Myrtle), and Roy (Jean) Gibson; a sister and spouse, Vernace (Fred) Bishop; her nephews, Everett (Frances) Bishop, A. Lee Bishop, Roy Dean (Joyce and J. R.) Gibson, and Dennis Gibson; and nephew-in-law, Christopher Tatham. She was also preceded in death by several nieces, Berlene (Richard) Miller, Violet (Perry) Rhodes, Juanita Moran, Janet Gamble, and V. Blanch Taylor; brothers-in-law, Donald and Harold Harned; sister-in-law, Virginia (Marvin) Sypolt; and two infant nephews.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 3, in the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, where visitation continues from 12 until the 1 p.m. service Monday, November 4, with Pastor Linda Masters officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery (Pisgah) in Bruceton Mills.
