MORGANTOWN – Newsweek has named two Morgantown hospitals as the two best in the state in its America’s Best-In-State Hospitals 2025 ranking.
Newsweek named WVU Medicine’s Morgantown-based complex that includes J.W. Ruby Memorial as the top hospital.
Vandalia Health’s Mon Health Medical Center was ranked Number 2.
Three other WVUM hospitals also made the list of eight hospitals: Reynolds Memorial in Glad Dale, third; United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, sixth; Thomas Memorial, South Charleston, seventh.
WVU Health System President and CEO Albert Wright commented, “We’re honored to see that half of the eight West Virginia hospitals recognized as America’s Best-in-State Hospitals for 2025 by Newsweek are WVU Medicine hospitals.
“This recognition demonstrates that our hub-and-spoke model of providing safe, effective, high-quality care is working for our patients,” he continued. “We’re proud that so many people across the state and region have entrusted us with their care, and it is our pledge to continue delivering the care they need where they need it. I would also like to extend my most sincere thanks to the members of the WVU Medicine family whose dedication to our patients made these rankings possible.”
For Mon Health, Krystal Atkinson, chief administrative officer and chief nursing officer of Mon Health Medical Center and chief nursing executive of Mon Health System, commented, “This award is a reflection of our commitment to providing the highest quality care to our communities. At Mon Health, our team is deeply invested in the health and well-being of every patient we serve, and we are honored to receive this recognition as one of the best in our state.”
David Goldberg, president and CEO of Mon Health System and Davis Health System – Vandalia Health North – and executive vice president of Vandalia Health, also commented: “At Vandalia Health, we are continually evaluating our processes and outcomes. This ensures we are always advancing and delivering the best care to our patients one patient at a time.
“We have the best doctors, nurses, colleagues, and volunteers across our health system supporting patient care and could not ask for a more engaged community-focused board to ensure we stay laser focused on community health care needs and quality delivery to the patient,” Goldberg said.
Newsweek produced the rankings with the assistance of Statista R, which compiles company, brand, and product rankings based on market research and data analysis.
Mon Health outlined Newsweek’s criteria: Hospital quality metrics using data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the American Hospital Association and a variety of accreditation sources; a nationwide online survey to collect input from healthcare professionals; Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems patient experience surveys; and Patient Reported Outcome Measures implementation survey.
