Fred Harry Summers, 88, of Morgantown, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024, in Mon Health Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1936, in Morgantown, a son of the late Ray and Josie Dalton Summers.
Fred was a Christian by faith and loved to listen to his grandson’s services.
He served for 36 years as a coal miner at Humphrey Coal Mine and was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was also a cattle farmer for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Norma Summers; his daughter, Lavonna McDonald and husband Michael; his grandson, Pastor Brady McDonald and wife Erin; great-granddaughter, Everly Grace McDonald; siblings, Lois Dalton, Denzil Summers, Ilene Goodwin and husband Roger, Darlene Woody and husband James, Dewain Summers, Blaine Summers and wife Rhonda, Sandra Dalton and husband Gilbert. Fred is also survived by good friend, Roland Dalton; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Freda Louise Summers; his siblings, Ralph Summers and wife Margaret, Pauline Dalton and husband Glenn, Ray Junior Summers and wife Audrey, Garnet Dalton and husband Raymond; and brother and sisters-in-law, Keith Dalton, Rosalie Summers, and Peggy Summers.
Friends and family will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 31, in Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, with his grandson, Pastor Brady McDonald, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
